Implants, Penis Length, And More (video)

November 27, 2015

Penile prostheses are used to restore erections in an externally visible organ that also has ejaculatory and urinary functions. As such, penile prostheses have the potential to have an effect on physical appearance, ejaculation, and urination. Do they?

We asked Surgeo surgeon Robert Cornell, M.D. to give us some answers. In the video that follows, he reviews the effect of penile implant surgery on physical appearance, length, orgasm, and more. Among his points:

          •  Nobody can tell you have a penile implant
          •  Implants are not detected by security devices
          •  The penis is typically shortened by 1 inch as it gains erectile function
          •  Loss of length varies with certain conditions, such as diabetes
          •  A ventral phalloplasty can increase penile length a bit
          •  There is no change in sensation and sensitivity
          •  There is no change in ejaculation or orgasm

•  There is no change in urinary function
