A little about me ...

I am a general surgeon with a practice limited to minimally invasive foregut surgery as well as comprehensive diagnostic testing for hiatal hernia and reflux disease, including esophago-gastroduodenoscopy (upper GI), pH testing, and motility assessment. I take special pride in working with my patients before and after surgery. I also have extensive experience in bariatric weight loss surgery, including revisions. In the 1990s and early 2000s I was a pioneer in laparoscopic surgery and a teacher to other surgeons around the world. I performed the first laparoscopic hiatal hernia repair (1992) and the first sleeve gastrectomy (2007) in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in North Texas. I have served as the President of the American Society of General Surgeons (ASGS) and its delegate to the American Medical Association and the Board of Governors of the American College of Surgeons. I am committed to being an independent surgeon and my patients' advocate. After having been certified by the American Board of Surgery for 30 years, I decided in 2010 to not renew my Boards voluntarily because I did not view that process as relevant to my practice. Likewise, I do not participate in third-party payment contracts because such contracts interfere with the surgeon's ability to provide unbiased care.
